Born on Kauai

Born on the island of Kauai, Hawaii in 2019, this simple yet refreshing cocktail invokes the tropical flavors of the Kauai white pineapple with only the finest tequila.

It was first poured in Waimea, on the island’s sunny southwest shore, at the foot of Waimea Canyon.

How to pour one

Both versions follow one rule: two parts ginger beer to one part tequila, built over ice in a cocktail glass and finished with lime.

The Original

Añejo tequila with Aloha Ginger Beer.

2 partsginger beer, 3 oz1 partañejo, 1½ oz
  1. Fill a cocktail glass with ice.
  2. Pour in the tequila.
  3. Top with the ginger beer.
  4. Squeeze the lime over the drink and drop it in.

The Mainlander

Reposado tequila, ginger beer and a splash of pineapple.

2 partsginger beer, 3 oz1 partreposado, 1½ oza splashpineapple juice, ½ oz
  • Casamigos Reposado Tequila1½ oz45 ml
  • Ginger beer3 oz90 ml
  • Pineapple juice½ oz15 ml
  • Lime1 wedge
  1. Fill a cocktail glass with ice.
  2. Pour in the tequila.
  3. Top with the ginger beer.
  4. Add a splash of pineapple juice.
  5. Squeeze the lime over the drink and drop it in.

Pouring for six? Mix 9 oz (270 ml) tequila with 18 oz (540 ml) ginger beer, then add lime and pineapple glass by glass.
